Most people do not want to even think about life insurance. Thinking about life insurance means that you have to think about death. No one really wants to think about death. We should, though. No one is immortal, at least no one that I know of. There will come a time for each one of us to pass on and we do not always know when that time is. When we pass away, we leave behind many loved ones. We also leave behind many bills. Do you really want to leave your loved ones high and dry when you pass away? I don’t think you do. We will begin with some people that the life insurance policy will refer to whether that be a permanent life insurance policy or a term life insurance policy. There is the policy holder who holds the policy, just as the title suggests. In other words, this is the person who has purchased the life insurance. Then there is the insurer or the insurance company. There is also the insured or the person that the policy is taken out for. Finally, there is the beneficiary or the person who will eventually receive the money from the policy.

Let us now clear up your confusion on permanent life insurance, term life insurance and whole life insurance. First of all, permanent life insurance and whole life insurance are the same kind of policy, just different names. A permanent life insurance policy or whole life insurance policy is one in which the policy holder plans to keep the policy until the insured passes away. This kind of policy has no need for renewal. Term life insurance, however, is one in which the policy holder plans on having the policy only for a short amount of time, say ten, twenty, or fifty years. This kind of policy has to be renewed. When it is renewed the rates usually go up.
